Colour in our class.

Today we got some colour up in our classroom.

Lots of students have now finished their Personal Profile pages, which are pegged up in the room. They have our photo and a splash of colour.

We also have some fabric on the walls.

Purple was the colour for our reading area.  This colour helps our imagination, so that when we read exciting stories our imagination is switched on and we can picture what is happening in the book.

Light green helps us when we are learning, so we have that in an area where we will present our written work, and another area where we will show our learning in Maths.

Our class is slowly taking shape...

Tuesday 29 January 2013

Today we made our class agreement about how we will behave in the class and around the school.

In groups we brainstormed some ideas of rules we might have in our class, shared them with the whole class and talked about them.
Then we talked about being 'above the line'.
This is an idea that things above the line will help us to stay safe, feel good about ourselves and others, get along with others and do our best learning.

This was based on an idea...

So our Class Agreement looks like this...

Room 8 Class Agreement

  • Be 'above the line'
  • Show care and respect to people and property
  • Listen and concentrate to do our best learning
  • Move safely around the school

We will revisit this again tomorrow and sign our name to this agreement.

Welcome to the Room 8 blog for 2013.

Today, our first day of school, we discussed our classroom  furniture and 'built' our learning environment together.

We talked about having spaces in our class for working by ourselves, in pairs and in small or larger groups.  The students decided where to put the furniture and how it should all go together.

We have a selection of thin tall tables, larger low tables, chairs, stools, cushions and a bean bag.

By the afternoon, the students had placed our furniture in the class where we think it might work.  We know that we may have to move things around as we go -  to suit our learning.

We decided on a comfy reading corner with a bean bag and cushions, some tall tables around a maths area, some tall tables together for a small group and some tall tables by the window for individuals or pairs.
