Art Gallery Trip

Today we visited the Auckland Art Gallery.
We made some art, called Abstract Landscapes by brushing dye on paper and then tilting the paper to let the colours run.

We talked about our art.  We discussed what we felt about what we had made and how it related to landscapes.  Some people's art made them think of a certain place where they had been.

Kate and Poppie's Presentation

Kate and Poppie created a presentation in their google drive to show what they had found out about their space wonderings.  Have a look at it below. You can click on the videos they have included to watch more.

Use the controls in the bottom left corner to navigate through their presentation.

Caroline's Folk Tale

Caroline wondered why two of the planets in our solar system don't have any moons when some planets have many moons.

After not finding much information to answer her wondering she crafted her own folk tale to explain why.

Read the story and watch the video below of Caroline reading to the class.

Why Mercury and Venus have no Moons

It is a lovely day in Wonderland. Alice called to her dad. Her dad said, “Don’t forget Alice, I am going to space.”
Alice replied, “Who’s space?  And when? What? Why? How?”

Her dad said, “Space is a place where there are lots and lots of stars and planets.” Alice just skipped to her room, and BANG! The door slid shut. Her dad jumped in his spaceship, and of course, he didn't forget his space suit!

He shot into space and climbed out of the space ship. He wanted some moons. Mercury and Venus were the closest planets so he climbed out of the spaceship and grabbed their two moons.

He headed back to his house and threaded the moons on Alice’s shiny necklace. Alice wore it and she LOVED it. That’s why Mercury and Venus have no moons!

What we wear

Oh no. We all chose the same outfit for mufti!

Number of the day idea

Here is a 'Number of the Day' template for those people who would like to use this idea at home.
You can involve your children in picking a number and if they pick one that is too easy, parents choose the number next time.

Please remember you can adapt the activities to make them easier or harder depending on the ability of your child.

Click here if you would like to see a page that you can print.
When you click the link it will open in a new window. Go to 'File' then 'Download as' to save a copy as a Word Doc or any other format you would like.

Caleb's Chocolate

Chocolate

Chocolate looks like a soft blanket at night watching a movie.

Chocolate feels wet like hard melted ice cream.

Chocolate sounds crunchy in my mouth.

It smells like a hot summer’s day at the beach.

It tastes gooey like I just fell into a chocolate pool!

I Like

I like trees, but not their branches.
I like going outside, but not when it rains.
I like dogs but not their claws.
I like school but not maths.
I like play-dates but not when it’s boring.
I like my hair but not when it’s messy.

Maths Magic

One morning Mr Tucker did a magic trick at 9:55 with Jack.

First, the P.A. chose Jack for the magic trick. Then Jack went to the back of the classroom to write a number between 1 and 63.  After, Jack came back to the side of the classroom to show the paper to the class. Meanwhile, Mr Tucker was looking at the wall for 5 seconds. Mr Tucker turned around.

Then Mr Tucker showed 6 cards to Jack. "Is your number on these 6 cards?"  Jack said 2 of them had his number on them. Lucy A chose 1 of the 2 cards. Mr Tucker choose a card and got the number right.

MATHS MAGIC TRICK

On Thursday the 28th of February at school, Mr Tucker showed the class a magic trick.

First the P.A. Bianca chose a volunteer to go at the back of the classroom and write a number for the magic trick between 1-63.

Jack wrote a special number and showed the class while Mr Tucker was counting in the corner for five seconds so he could not see the number.

When Mr Tucker got up to five seconds Jack hid the number and Mr Tucker took 6 cards out.

After that Mr Tucker asked Jack to get the cards and find the cards that had his number. Jack's number was 20 and was on two of the cards.

Mr Tucker counted the cards and then separated his fingers and waved his hands over the cards, and slapped the cards.

Then Mr Tucker gave a card to Lucy A and then she gave it back to him. He made sure that Jacks number was on the cards and then guessed the number. The number was 20.
